TRAIL SAFETY
Please be Safe and Courteous while bicycling on the Trail!
Below are a few important rules that will help keep the bicycle ride safe and fun for everyone.
- Wear a bicycle helmet.
- Obey all traffic laws.
- Stop at all roadway crossings. Look for automobile traffic. Even if the person in front of or beside you is starting to cross, look for automobile traffic yourself before crossing.
- Yield to slower trail users, including pedestrians and slower bicyclists.
- Ride on the right side of the trail, except when passing. Pass on the left.
- Ring a bell or give a verbal warning (such as “passing on your left”) to other bicyclists and pedestrians on the trail before passing them. Try not to startle people when you are passing.
- Give plenty of space to other bicyclists (in front, behind, and beside you). Only ride side-by-side if you can see over a long distance that there are no other trail users approaching from the opposite direction and no trail users approaching you from behind.
- Ride far enough away from the edge of the trail to avoid hazards and debris.
- Move off the trail when stopped.
- Do not “race” with other bicyclists.
- Ride with care at all times.
- Make sure your bicycle is in working condition and that you feel comfortable on your bicycle before starting to ride.
