WHERE: Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail, Reston, Virginia

ROUTE: Start at Reston Town Center Pavilion
The ride includes 10 and 35 miles options.

DIRECTIONS: The ride will begin at the Reston Town Center Pavilion in Reston, Virginia. There are several parking garages at the Reston Town Center.

REGISTER: Online registration is closed, but you can register onsite for $30 (cash or check ONLY).

VOLUNTEER: We need lots of volunteers to make this ride safe and successful! Volunteers are needed the night before the ride to help with registration and bag preparation. Volunteers are also needed the day of the ride at registration and water stops, as well for set-up and clean-up and directing riders. Paul's Ride in 2009 met all of our expectations!

Paul's Ride for Life began in 2009 as a labor of love for all of us who knew Paul. Our objective was to remember Paul's enthusiasm for life, celebrate his love of cycling, and raise money for the Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC).

What a wonderful success we all enjoyed in Paul's Ride for Life 2009. The 128 riders enjoyed rides of either 10 or 32 miles. More than 50 volunteers from all walks of life helped us with registration, assisted riders at rest stops, directed traffic, monitored the trail, played music, took pictures, organized publicity, recruited sponsors, and helped with the myriad logistics of an event of this magnitude. Everyone who volunteered did an awesome job.

Perhaps most gratifying of all, we raised over $12,000 for the WRTC. In addition to the registration monies received from our riders, donations were provided by family, friends, and those inspired by Paul's Ride. We chose to give the funds we raised from Paul's Ride to the WRTC for two reasons, first, as a result of Paul's death, both of his kidneys and his liver were given to three individuals who received the gift of life, and second, Rachael and I feel that there can be a positive part to this tragedy that is centered around organ donation and ensuring that others are able to gain a new quality of life. The mission of WRTC is to recover organs and tissues by preserving every donation option, excel in recovery and placement, and provide care for donors and their families.

All of us who worked on Paul's Ride gained a lot of personal satisfaction and we are excited to be holding Paul's Ride for Life again in 2010. We look forward to seeing many of last year's faces and many new ones as well on April 24, 2010.
